LAWRENCE OF ARABIA RUN
FRIDAY 21st. & SATURDAY 22nd. August 2020

This is the first of the 'ONE NIGHT STAND SERIES' of rides which have been designed to be a 2 day Ride-Out with an overnight stop ,allowing us, firstly to have a few beers in the evening, and secondly be able to travel that little bit further than our usual a single day trips. If successful, other rides are in the planning. To keep the costs down, the hotel will be 'cheap and cheerful', and hopefully somewhere suitable for an overnight 'get together'. ie.....Bar and Food.

This trip will be for Chapter Members who want to ride over 2 days, as the distance to be ridden, although not excessive, and pace we shall be travelling will be .... as the Police manual, Roadcraft would say "making good progress". I only mention this because we shall mainly be travelling on Main 'A' and 'B' roads, because of the area we are visiting and I don't want anyone to feel disappointed and not be fully aware, this will NOT be a country lane gentle tour.

This famous transport cafe was often used by T E LAWRENCE (Lawrence of Arabia ) in the 1920's & 30's as a stop on his madcap ride outs on one of his famous Brough Superiors where he rode 'the Triangle' to purchase Sausages in Nottingham, Bacon in Lincoln as he recalls in his notes and book 'THE MINT' published in the 1950's after his death. The Triangle, where Lawrence wrote in his notes he regularly rode, at an average speed of 78 mph, will take us from Newark towards Lincoln, along The Fosse Way, passing RAF Whitewall Villa, where he amused himself racing and actually overtaking the planes taking off on the parallel runway to the road. We shall stop for lunch at The International Bomber Command Museum. On leaving we shall travel over the Fens on the longest straight road in England (before motorways) back to Sleaford and then home, with a coffee/comfort stop at Newmarket HD, for those who wish.

This is an outline of the ride out, subject to changes if need be. However the hotel will not change. Timings and other details etc. will be given nearer the time to those coming on the tour.
If this Tour is of interest, I would suggest you consider booking sooner than later bearing in mind August generally being a busy hotel period.
Please note: NOT to book breakfast at the hotel, as Scoffers, is nearby.
If you are coming, please advise me by email, after you have booked the hotel, so I can then keep you up to date with plans/details etc. Any questions/queries, feel free to email me.
